More and more messages are coming into our site and Facebook posts from residents who have been affected by the policies of Mayor Derek Kawakami and this one of several that came in yesterday that with move your heart.
We are seeing 3 to 5 messages like these daily and we wonder for every message we get how many others out there have their story and are suffering greatly?
These are the people who are suffering and sadly the damage has already been done. It breaks my heart to know that there are countless people that have lost everything just on our little island. Think of how many around the world, it’s staggering. Yes, Kauai has been the closest thing to a safe haven regarding the lack of sickness and death but at what cost? I’d take my chances with the virus any day to have my freedom and the resources to live a decent life. The use of the word “safe” infuriates me. There are no guarantees that any of us are ever safe…. not if we’re really LIVING. Open up our island, our state, our country and let us be in charge of our own destiny.
I agree Gayle. I hear the word “safe” over and over again and I wonder.. safe from depression? poverty? homelessness? suicide? social isolation? despair? It seems there is only one aspect of our overall health that is being considered here. I blame the media and the over reaction of local and federal politicians. We must allow people to live and decide for themselves which risks they will take in their own lives.
Elected officials…what if this was YOUR Ohana member?!? Please have ALOHA 🙏
I am fortunate to have been on SS for a while, and have been volunteering at church of the Pacific Weds. foodbank (1 to 3, please come). The mayor acted hugely resentful of the mask as I watched hijm a year ago on the daily updates. It was in one of these that he used “lockstep” as something we must do. Reading a commie script? Shocking. My health clinic said they did not have a pad on which to write a mask exemption.
I would imagine the majority of dwellers on Kauai have had enuf already. Be brave. Live on your feet, get educated (and I don’t mean corporate media). SAVE THE CHILDREN
